THE ASSOCIATION OF BRITISH RIDING SCHOOLS represents approximately 400 professional riding schools. Ham House Stables has been a member for many years and has benefitted from their comprehensive advice and support on all levels. They encourage the classical form of training for horses and believe that the quality of instruction is the key to success for both disabled and able bodied riders. Always friendly and helpful, the Association provides an efficient exam system and is always ready to help with welfare and safety issues.
Ham House Stables fully supports THE RIDING FOR THE DISABLED ASSOCIATION. Their motto is, ‘It is what you CAN do that counts’ which I think should be taken to heart by everyone learning to ride! Having been involved with the Association since 1976 I have seen it go from strength to strength; the horses and ponies continuing to provide therapy and fun to people with disabilities. If you have some free time why not sign up to be a volunteer.
THE HAM POLO CLUB was founded in 1926 and is the last remaining polo club in Greater London. Its beautiful location beside Ham House and the Thames is also adjacent to the Ham House Stables arena. Matches take place from May to September in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and the Club also provides professional tuition for budding polo players – some of our clients included!
Horse & Rider is the UK’s best-selling equestrian monthly and, for many years, has featured Minette Rice-Edwards amongst its “Experts” who offer advice to readers’ queeries.
The National Trust describes our neighbour, Ham House as being, “unique in Europe as the most complete survival of 17th century fashion and power”. Certainly, it is a beautiful and grand neighbour and we are privileged to share its imposing location. The house and formal gardens have changed little in 300 years, there is the oldest orangery in Britain, an icehouse, a dairy and a tea room for visitors. Our clients and horses walk though Ham House’s tree lined avenue on their way to the Arena, enjoying superb views of the Thames.
MARTIN WILKINSON SADDLERS – dating back to their inception in 1973, this company provides an extensive range of new and used saddles. Martin himself lectures to the Royal Veterinary College on back problems caused by ill fitting saddles. He has been fitting and providing saddles to Ham House Stables for over 30 years and I can always rely on him to find a solution for even the most difficult and complicated problem.
Emily Corcoran is a talented equine photographer who uses her admitted “mild obsession” with horses to bring understanding, expression and complete individuality to her work. Emily’s photographs are used throughout this website and she carries out individual commissions for livery clients at Ham House Stables. If you can take time to view her excellent website you will see her creative talents across a wide range of horsey settings. Ham House Stables has its own gallery, so be sure to take a special look.
PETERSHAM FARM STABLES offers a high quality full livery service with excellent turn out facilities close to Richmond Park and within 30 minutes of central London. Jacqui Hindley and her team give classical, training support to horses and clients of all levels. She is an experienced Alexander Technique teacher and is also trained in Natural Horsemanship. Petersham Farm has my full support and recommendation.
EQUINOST – Jonathan Cohen is the first osteopath in Europe to hold a University validated qualification in Veterinary Osteopathy. He visits Ham House Stables on a regular basis and it is not hard to see how the horses benefit, both physically and mentally. Even the most suspicious patients are soon enjoying the treatment with Jonathans sympathetic and positive approach.
